He told himself he didn't have to do this.

That he could walk away and never look back, and do everything his father had done.

He feels her sitting her sitting in his arms, her gaze shifting from the pregnant woman across from them to the many pictures of newborn babies on the waiting room wall.

It's not like they hadn't been planning this. Wait, they didn't. Three months ago, they had sat on the stool in the bathroom waiting for the alarm on his cell phone to go off. If he had once thought that the 5 minutes it took for him to open his bar exam results were long, waiting for a piece of plastic to tell them that two was becoming three, was eternity.

"It's so fast"

Alex looks up at him, not sure what she's supposed to say or do to make this more surreal. It sounds like waves crashing on the rocks. He can make out a head and arms and legs, and for a moment, the world stops spinning.

Their baby. Growing inside her, making her belly protrude and do weird things to her appetite. 

He thinks that she's never looked more beautiful.
